I just had time to make a few exposures before the colours faded to the dull grey of the rest of the sky. Having the beach to myself and witnessing such a display of beauty I'll never forget.

Rattray Head lighthouse

After a burning sunrise the sky soon died down to a dull blue, still beautiful in it's own way.

The Moray Firth at sunset

bow fiddle rock

There's something almost unreal about seeing something as spectacular as Bow Fiddle Rock, it's such an amazing formation it looks almost man made. On this, my first visit, the sunrise wasn't spectacular but the muted colours make an excellent backdrop for this amazing work of nature.

Bow fiddle Rock 4am

The sun really sets in the north of Scotland in the summer months. This evening I had spent sunset further down the coast at Cove Bay, after a short drive I was in Portnockie, I only had to wait an hour for the light to return so I could start work again. Just before sunrise at 4am I had positioned myself on an outcrop ready for the optimum light. I was rather surprised when I looked back towards the cliff top to see a row of photographers who were probably cursing me for getting there before them and positioning themselves in their field of view. I later discovered they were on a photo holiday from Holland.

Hopeman misting

Applecross setting

In the summer months it rearly gets dark in the north of Scotland. The golden glow of the sun, long fallen below the horizon produces wonderful tones in the sky and reflections in the water
